Etihad Airways

Etihad Airways, founded in 2003 and headquartered in Abu Dhabi, is the flag carrier of the United Arab Emirates' capital emirate and the second-largest airline in the UAE after Emirates. The airline operates its hub at Abu Dhabi International Airport, which completed a major expansion with the opening of Terminal A in 2023. Etihad serves destinations across the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, and Australia. The airline's fleet includes Boeing 787-9 and 787-10 Dreamliner, Boeing 777-300ER, and Airbus A321neo aircraft. Etihad's cabin products include First Class apartments and suites on select aircraft, Business Class with lie-flat seats in a staggered configuration, and Economy Class. The airline previously operated a three-room suite called The Residence on its Airbus A380 fleet, the most exclusive commercial airline product ever offered. Etihad Guest is the airline's loyalty program with tiered membership. Etihad does not belong to any global airline alliance but maintains partnership agreements with numerous carriers. The airline pursued an aggressive equity alliance strategy in the 2010s, acquiring stakes in airlines including Alitalia, Air Berlin, Air Serbia, and Jet Airways, though several of these investments ultimately proved unsuccessful. Etihad subsequently refocused on its core Abu Dhabi hub operation, reducing fleet size and route network while improving profitability. The airline has positioned itself as a sustainability leader, operating the industry's first commercial flight using sustainable aviation fuel and investing in carbon offset programs.
