WestJet, founded in 1996 and headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, was originally modeled after Southwest Airlines as a low-cost carrier serving the Canadian domestic market. The airline has since evolved into a hybrid carrier offering a broader range of services and cabin classes. WestJet operates its primary hub at Calgary International Airport, with focus cities at Toronto Pearson, Vancouver, and Winnipeg airports. The airline's fleet includes Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner for long-haul routes, Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737 MAX 8 for domestic and transborder services. WestJet's cabin products include Business Class on the Dreamliner with lie-flat pods, Premium on domestic and transborder flights, and Economy. The airline serves destinations across Canada, the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and Europe, with Dreamliner services to London Gatwick, Dublin, Edinburgh, Paris, Rome, and Barcelona. The airline was taken private by Onex Corporation in 2019, delisting from the Toronto Stock Exchange. WestJet also operates Swoop, rebranded as WestJet Ultra Low in some markets, targeting the ultra-low-cost segment.
