Volotea does not belong to any airline alliance. The Spanish low-cost carrier operates independently, focusing on connecting small and medium-sized European cities with point-to-point service, particularly in France, Spain, Italy, and Greece.

Volotea operates from multiple bases across Southern Europe, with major operations at Nantes (NTE), Bordeaux (BOD), Venice Marco Polo (VCE), Athens (ATH), and Asturias (OVD). The airline connects smaller cities that are often underserved by larger carriers.

Volotea operates a single Economy class cabin on its Airbus A319 and A320 fleet. The airline offers three fare options: Basic (hand luggage only), Optima (checked bag included), and Mega Optima (flexibility and extras included).

Volotea Basic fares include only a personal bag. Checked bags can be pre-purchased in 20 kg increments at online rates. Optima and Mega Optima fares include one checked bag. A small cabin bag and personal item are included with all fare types.

Volotea was founded in 2012 by the co-founders of Vueling and fills a niche by connecting small and medium-sized cities that lack direct service from major airlines. The airline avoids competing head-to-head with larger carriers at major hubs, instead focusing on underserved routes between secondary airports in Southern Europe.
