Cathay Pacific Airways, founded in 1946 in Hong Kong by American Roy Farrell and Australian Sydney de Kantzow, is the flag carrier of Hong Kong and a founding member of the oneworld alliance. Headquartered at Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok, the airline operates one of Asia's most extensive international networks, connecting over 70 destinations worldwide with a particular strength in routes between Asia, Europe, North America, and Australasia. The airline does not operate domestic routes, as Hong Kong has no domestic aviation market, making Cathay Pacific a purely international carrier. Cathay Pacific is majority owned by the Swire Group, with Air China holding a significant minority stake. The airline also operates Cathay Cargo, one of the world's leading air cargo carriers, taking advantage of Hong Kong's position as a major global logistics hub. HK Express serves as Cathay's low-cost subsidiary for short-haul leisure routes.
